New Hospital Overview
Approved on 5th June 2013, the Outline Business Case sets out a compelling vision for reshaping health services across Dumfries and Galloway. A key component of this is the provision of a new District General Hospital within a modern, patient centred and highly efficient environment.
The site for the region’s new district general hospital is on the outskirts of the town, close to the Garroch roundabout, by the A75.
In September 2014 the Board selected High Wood Health as the preferred bidder to fund, design, deliver, and maintain the new hospital. Construction started in March 2015.
Funding the New Hospital
We are using the Non-Profit-Distributing procurement route. Returns to the private sector are capped, and no dividends are payable to shareholders. Any surpluses are returned to the public sector.
It is the largest of 5 Healthcare projects in the Non-Profit-Distributing Programme in Scotland.
Involvement of Scottish Futures Trust
This is a public sector project. The programme is being supported by the Scottish Futures Trust; SFT approval is required at specific points in the project – this is called Key Stage Review.
