Public Transport

The new 111 service provided by Houston’s Coaches has commenced operations to and from the new hospital.

Bus timetables will be displayed in the main reception and are available on the staff intranet, DG Council website or Swestrans website

Stagecoach who operate the Megarider ticket for use in and around Dumfries have agreed to extend the zone, making it valid to include the new hospital/Garroch site. This means staff travelling into town to pick up the 111 service using their weekly Megarider ticket will not have to purchase an additional ticket to travel on the 111 bus.

The 500 Service from the west of the region will call into the new hospital as it makes its way to and from Dumfries.

Service 5 from Dumfries town centre will continue to the existing DGRI and Crichton sites with no alteration to the timetable or journey frequency.

ere will be a bus service every 20 minutes from Dumfries town centre to the hospital, and hospital to Dumfries town centre.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway are working with DGC and Swestrans to improve services for people throughout the region who need to travel to the hospital by bus.

Car Parking

Car Parking is free. The site has 980 parking spaces within its boundary and is covered by CCTV to improve security. Patients attending outpatient clinics can access a dedicated parking area adjacent to the main entrance.

There are 68 ‘Blue Badge’ disabled parking spaces at the new hospital – 34 at the main entrance and 34 close to the Emergency Department and Orthopaedic Outpatient Department.  The management of these spaces is enforceable by the Road Traffic Regulation act (Traffic Regulation Order –TRO).  The car park has 40 electric car charging points.

There are dedicated ‘drop off’ spaces at the main entrance.

Walking & Cycling

NHS Dumfries and Galloway are working with Dumfries and Galloway Council to ensure good walking and cycle paths to and from Dumfries town.

There will be Staff Changing, showering, drying & bike storage facilities at the new hospital.

We are committed to supporting and encouraging staff who would like to walk or cycle to work at the new hospital.

We are committed to improving travel and transport to the new hospital as part of a wider ‘green travel’ strategy.
